If you are like most people, you have certain areas where fat tends to accumulate, forming bulges that persist no matter how much you exercise or watch what you eat. Liposuction at our Kalispell plastic surgery practice is an effective solution for these “problem areas.” Liposuction is consistently one of the most popular procedures with patients from Whitefish and Great Falls, Montana; Coeur d’Alene and Sandpoint, Idaho; and throughout the Northwest because it produces excellent results with relatively little downtime.
If you’ve spent much time online researching liposuction, you’re aware there are several different techniques used to perform the procedure. Our board-certified plastic surgeons, Dr. Michelle Spring and Dr. Michael Hromadka, use power-assisted liposuction (PAL). The technique is the same as traditional liposuction but uses a vibrating cannula (the thin tube that’s inserted during the surgery). The vibrating cannula breaks up the fatty tissue without the vigorous back-and-forth motions required during manual liposuction. This gentler approach results in less bruising and swelling and a shorter recovery.
Liposuction surgery begins with making small incisions in the treatment area and injecting a solution that includes saline, lidocaine, and epinephrine to numb the area and minimize bleeding. After saturating the area, the surgeon inserts the vibrating cannula and suctions out the fat.
Depending on the treatment area and the amount of fat being removed, the procedure can be performed using a local anesthetic with sedation or a general anesthetic.
Dr. Hromadka is an excellent Dr and the staff is great too! am very pleased how I was treated from the moment I walked into their office! All of my questions were answered and the procedure went just as smooth as I thought it would! I would highly recommend Dr Hromadka and his office to my friends! I am very excited to see the changes happening with my inner thighs after 2 weeks and cannot wait to see the final results!
5-Star RealSelf review
Good liposuction candidates are men and women who are in good overall health and have stubborn fat bulges that resist exercise and diet. They also have realistic expectations about the procedure’s results and understand that leading a healthy lifestyle will help maintain the outcome. Even though liposuction removes excess fat, it is not a weight-loss procedure.
Power-assisted liposuction can remove fat from virtually any area of the body, including the:
Our surgeons may also use liposuction as part of gynecomastia surgery (male breast reduction).
Many of our patients choose to combine liposuction with other body contouring procedures, such as a tummy tuck. Women who have had children combine liposuction and a tummy tuck with cosmetic breast surgery, such as a breast lift, as part of a mommy makeover. Our surgeons discuss your options during the consultation and then create a personalized surgical plan to achieve your goals. You will also receive a quote that reflects the specifics of your treatment plan. Many of our patients take advantage of the financing options we offer to pay for their procedure(s).
The combination of surgical skill and decades of experience sets Dr. Spring and Dr. Hromadka apart from other plastic surgeons not just in Kalispell, but throughout Montana and the Northwest. Assisted by Kristy Ehrmantraut, PA-C, their surgical physician assistant, Dr. Spring and Dr. Hromadka are known for their down-to-earth personalities and for spending the time to truly understand their patients’ goals.
The time it takes you to recover after liposuction depends partly on the size of the area or areas treated and the extent of the surgery. Some patients can return to non-physical jobs within 2 or 3 days if the procedure focuses on a single area, such as the upper arms, and removes a smaller amount of fat. Others need a week or more off from work.
You’ll need to wear compression garments for several weeks to help reduce swelling, encourage the skin to adhere smoothly, and avoid developing lumps. If you feel comfortable, you can start light exercise within 4 to 5 days of surgery but avoid lifting more than 10 pounds for the first 2 weeks after the procedure. We’ll provide detailed postoperative instructions that you should closely follow to help your recovery progress as smoothly as possible.
