#1. Does a Breast Lift Leave Scars?

Yes. Cosmetic surgery is still surgery, and scarring is a natural result of the surgical process. However, our board-certified plastic surgeons take great care to make your incisions as inconspicuous as possible and prepare you for a smooth healing journey. All scars go through a healing process, and breast scars usually heal very nicely, typically blending in with the surrounding skin over time.

Depending on how much extra skin you have and how low your original nipple position is, your scars may vary between just a circular scar around the areola (“periareolar”), a lollipop scar (periareolar plus a vertical incision from the bottom of the areola to the base of the breast), or a full anchor scar (a lollipop scar with a horizontal incision along the base of the breast).

#2. How Long Does It Take for Breast Lift Scars To Heal?

Scars generally take a year to mature fully, although individual rates can vary. Scars will be more noticeable in the first few months but gradually soften and fade over time. Your healed, one-year breast lift scars will typically blend naturally into your skin tone and look very different from your scars at the six-month mark.

#3. How Important Is Scar Care During Recovery?

To maximize healing and minimize the appearance of breast lift scars, it is vital that you follow your surgeon’s postoperative recommendations carefully. These scar reduction protocols might include using silicone gel sheets or creams, avoiding sun exposure, or massaging the scar tissue once the incision heals. Taking good care of your scars in the early stages of healing will ensure they have the best chance of fading and flattening over time.

#4. What Do Breast Lift Scars Look Like After 6 Months?

After 6 months, breast lift scars will still be visible but appear more muted in color and less raised. The incision lines may be slightly darker than your natural skin tone or more noticeable at this stage, but they should start to flatten out. The skin around the scars will begin to heal, and most patients will see a significant reduction in scarring by this time.

#5. What Do Breast Lift Scars Look Like After One Year?

Breast lift scars, after one year, will be lighter in color and more refined in texture. They may still be noticeable upon close inspection but should no longer be prominent.

#6. Do Breast Lift Scars Go Away Completely?

Your incision lines will significantly fade with time, but they won’t vanish entirely. Most patients find that the faded scars don’t detract from their breast lift results and are well worth it in exchange for the beautiful enhancements to their breasts.

#7. Are There Scar Treatment Options?

If you are bothered by your scars’ appearance after they have matured fully, you can explore treatment options such as laser skin resurfacing to minimize their appearance further. Your surgeon can recommend the best option for you.
