Exploring Your Body Contouring Options

From breast augmentation to CoolSculpting®, our Kalispell, MT, practice offers many ways to reshape your body. These body contouring procedures can help you sculpt the curves you want or minimize the ones you don’t. They can be surgical or nonsurgical, and most can be combined for all-over body enhancements.

I often perform body contouring procedures to help people achieve their ideal body shape. Whether you want to say goodbye to fat or hello to a bigger cup size, here are 4 body contouring options to explore.

CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting is an excellent nonsurgical alternative to liposuction for people who want to lose inches without surgery. CoolSculpting targets unwanted fat in multiple areas of the body by freezing fat cells, which destroys the unwanted fat. The destroyed cells are then metabolized by the body. The result is a leaner, smoother body contour.

CoolSculpting works best on people who are already close to their ideal weight. It’s often used on areas like the flanks, stomach, back, inner and outer thighs, arms, and under the chin. There’s no downtime required and you can see your results after just 1 treatment. However, for best results, a series of treatments is recommended.

Power Assisted Liposuction

Power assisted liposuction (PAL) is a surgical option for people who want to remove localized fat deposits that diet and exercise have proven unsuccessful in eliminating. Like regular tumescent liposuction, PAL removes fat using a thin hollow tube called a cannula. The cannula acts like a vacuum to suction away unwanted fat. However, the PAL cannula vibrates, thus breaking apart fat cells and making fat removal easier. This results in less damage to the tissues during surgery and allows for a faster recovery.

Liposuction is often used to remove fat from the stomach, buttocks, back thighs, arms, and chin. Most people require about 2 to 3 days of downtime before returning to work. However, those who have a significant amount of fat removed from multiple areas may need as much as a week off before returning to their daily routine.

Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)

To sculpt a flat, firm abdomen, my patients come to me for a tummy tuck. Tummy tuck surgery is unique because it not only makes your stomach smoother and leaner, it also restores muscle tone that declines because of aging, childbearing, or weight loss. A tummy tuck removes excess skin and tightens the abdominal wall to create a taut midsection.

Those who can benefit the most from a tummy tuck are within 10 pounds of their ideal body weight. Recovery is usually about 6 weeks total, with 2 weeks needed away from work. The results from tummy tuck surgery can last several years, as long as you stay active and eat right.

Mommy Makeover

When you want to improve 2 or more areas of your body at the same time, a mommy makeover is ideal. Mommy makeovers usually include a combination of body contouring procedures like breast augmentation, liposuction, and a tummy tuck.

Although mommy makeovers are excellent for moms who want to restore their bodies after having children, many people can benefit. Good candidates include women—and men—who are physically healthy, at or near an ideal body weight, and who want to address multiple concerns with 1 surgery.

Your mommy makeover will be customized to your specific needs. Because multiple surgeries are involved, you will need at least 2 weeks off from work–possibly more if your work is physically demanding. By 6 weeks, most people can resume their workout routine and are feeling more like themselves. Full results appear after several months and the changes are often very dramatic.
